Questions and Answers

Q: Why are you adopting first (what about biological kids)?
A: You know, the simple answer to this question is that it's just what we want to do. It's where our hearts are. There are many answers at play here, but that's the simplest one. Beyond that, it takes a lot to actually qualify to adopt. If you know us well, you know we've been living on an income that was well below the poverty line for quite some time in order to pursue work in ministry. We were also living without a permanent home for quite some time. We've had to work very hard to get to a place where we qualify. The more children you have in your family already, the more money you're required to earn, and the bigger your home has to be. Because of this, it makes a lot of sense that we would adopt first. And as for the future? Well, we will just take things one step at a time.

Q: Will this be a domestic or international adoption?
A: We know that there are many children in need in the US. We are in a unique place, however, to be able to work to maintain a close connection to our child's country of origin throughout their lives through an international adoption.

Q: Do you know any other details?
A: Not really, at this point. Because we are committed to being home and family to the children who need it most and who will likely be overlooked, is is highly likely that this will be a special needs/medical condition adoption beyond the range of minor and correctable.

Q: How long will the process take?
A: At this point, we don't know. International adoption can be unpredictable and lengthy. Many people wait long amounts of time (years) to wait for a healthy infant to be available. This is not necessarily the case with us. Things could move very slowly, or things could surprise us. We have to be open to either.

Q: How much is this costing/how can you afford it?
A: This will cost upwards of $20,000. We have been planning and budgeting for quite some time, but we are also trusting that fundraising will help ensure that we have all that we need.

Q: Will you still be leading Under the Same Tree?
A: Yep. I'll still be leading UTST, and David is working with another non-profit (Love the Lou) as an apartment superintendant.

Q: How can I Help?
A: See this page for all kinds of ways you can help.

Q: Do you have a gift registry?
A: Not yet, but we will let you know when we do.
