Happy New Listing!

I have just finishing listing some of my new items in my Etsy shop! Some pieces have just been completed as recently as a few hours ago.
(I made the entirety of my Upendo Means Love piece this morning while watching A Walk In The Clouds, a beautiful movie about a Mexican family who owns a vineyard. I know, it's a painting for Africa and a movie about Mexico, but in my house, the whole world converges every day. <3)

Enjoy!

Apple Pie Days

A little glimpse into the nicer moments of my past week :)
Autumn isn't my favorite season.. It's hard for me to see everything outside dying and fading away, but the season provides the occasional lovely moment. How about apple pie days?

Each year we drive all the way down old 94, take the Grafton Ferry across the Mississippi, and go to Ekhert's to pick apples. The journey is always longer than the time spent at the farm, but that's half the fun.

And.. We're Off!

I'm excited to announce the launch of my new Etsy shop, which is actually the purpose of this blog.
Check it out here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/OnBehalfOf

Ninety percent of the proceeds from each item in my shop will go to provide clean water in developing countries, free modern day slaves, or provide medical help to those with HIV. This shop was created on behalf of them.
I am not a professional or trained artist, nor do I claim to be. I do, however believe in using beauty to fight back against the ugliness in our world, and fighting back against forces of injustice with acts of selfless love.
Please wear or display my art on behalf of hope, and on behalf of the people who will receive it through the proceeds of this shop.

Programs your purchases go to support:

HIV/AIDS: Mocha Club (www.mochaclub.org) supports 4 HIV/AIDS clinics in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. These clinics provide:
1) Medical Attention – including good nutrition and Anti-Retroviral treatment, a drug program that quarantines the virus in one’s body and prolongs life.
2) Education – to both children and adults on the issues of HIV/AIDS.
3) Elimination of Poverty - accomplished by providing job training opportunities for those infected.

Modern Day Slavery: Not For Sale (www.notforsalecampaign.org) has five projects in Thailand, Cambodia, Peru, Uganda, and Honduras that serve to provide jobs for those affected by the trade, and provide safe houses and educate children rescued from sex trafficking.

Clean Water: Blood: Water Mission (www.bloodwatermission.com) exists to combat the water crisis in Africa by empowering communities with clean water wells, sanitation and hygiene training, as well as funding health clinics, community health workers, and support groups, which help in the prevention, treatment, care and support of communities affected by AIDS.
